The folks at CookieFam Genetics have outdone themselves with their impressive cross between Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies strains.
CookieFam chose the 33rd phenotype, giving Gelato the nickname, Larry Bird, after the famous basketball player.
Native to Northern California, Gelato has a sweet, fruity flavor, reminiscent of berries and citrus with a hint of lavender.
Take one look at the frosty, multi-colored buds, breathe in Gelato’s sweet aroma, and you’ll feel like you’ve just walked into an Italian ice cream parlor in the heart of North Beach.
The Gelato cannabis strain is famous for its quick onset of powerful effects. But like a waffle cone on a sunny day, Gelato imparts relaxing, euphoric, and creative feelings.
Recreational tokers prefer Gelato as a “wake and bake” strain. Pair a bowl of delicious Gelato with a cappuccino and conquer the day.

Growing Gelato
Growing Gelato can be tricky, but the rewards are well worth the effort. The strain requires a sunny, humid climate, which can be a challenge for outdoor growing.
However, Gelato is a hearty plant with high resistance to disease. Gelato cannabis plants respond particularly well to topping and will grow stout and bushy.
Gelato shows its distinctive characteristics right from the vegetative stage with exotic, purple-tinged leaves.
The leaves turn color due to the presence of anthocyanin pigments. Indoor growers will want to shock the plants with a cooler temperature to stimulate anthocyanin production.
The strain’s dense buds burst with vibrant colors and bright orange hairs. Gelato flowers tend to be small, but they’re packed with a high THC content. A dose of Gelato can stun even seasoned herb connoisseurs.
Like a rich dessert, a little bit of Gelato goes a long way. Gelato trim makes excellent cannabis concentrates because of its astronomical THC content.
Gelato Growing Info:
- Flowering Time: 8–10 weeks
- Height: up to 2 meters
- Indoor Yield: 500 grams per plant
- Outdoor Yield: 800 grams per plant
- Climate: warm and humid
